Great British place names ~ 6

I have been so busy this week, work, pleasure, and in my community preparing for the start of the cricket season.

Thanks for all the comments this week, I am very grateful at a time when I have only just got time to take and post a photo! I will catch up with everyone next week, as we are now headed to Wales to see family for the weekend and not back until late monday evening.

Today's photo is a local place, Shepshed.

It is an ancient town mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Scepeshefde", meaning " a hill where sheep graze".

The name of Shepshed was adopted in 1888.

Until becoming a town recently, Shepshed was Britain's largest village.

Today Shepshed is a town of 14,000 people.

Ther is a fantastic street name in Shepshed, that is on my target list for a shot one day. It will be sure to make you smile.....
