So, today is "The Longest Day", the Summer Solstice.
Instead of getting the BBQs out, and eating alfresco, with a nice chilled glass of Riesling, its Umbrellas, jumpers and cups of tea all round and at 5-45pm I have the lights on in my office at home!!
I got up at 4am this morning to go up Fox Hill and shoot the sun rising over East Leake at 4:52. It was grey, wet and horrible, so I didn't even leave the house.
So, on the longest day, my shot is of the rain on our stone garden table.
Happy days!!!
Special thanks to Sharon Lee @sugarmuser for the conversation we had about not taking a killer bee shot every day, and remembering to document a day in the life. Sharon, "I can see clearly now, (but) the rain has(n't) gone"
@soboy5 Ye, I'd trade at least for tomorrow. I've 2 tickets for England V West Indies cricket international, 100 miles up the motorway. I will not even think about going, and will expect to get a refund!!!
I can see clearly now.... one of my favourite songs & it's in my head all night now, LOL ! A very dreary longest day I agree & they are having a heat wave in the US, when is it our turn? Good wet weather photo We have the torch coming trough here tomorrow & it's going to put the thing out!!
WE are having a roast fest here. Something like 33 degrees, we have been melting for 3 days now. Sorry about the rain, patiently waiting for tomorrow where it is supposed to drop 10 degrees.
Smiles, the rain will clear soon and you will get your bright, bright, sunshiny day. Love the shot, it will remind you to make the most of the sun next time it shows up.
Yup, just like here! Terrible start to summer for sure. My shots of the day were rain inspired too. Not long before there's another cricket match in the sun I hope, eh?!
So sorry you didn't get your earliest sunrise of the year shot. Maybe you could have named this shot with that title anyway! Must be seriously miserable for you all. I'm feeling very chilly of a morning here but at least the sun's out this week.
Our weather is in sync for Solstice day. Soon we'll all be complaining that there's no rain in summer. Take it while it's on offer, I say. Besides, I'll take Winter and Winter-like weather over Summer any day.
You people in the UK need to send us some rain! You're having what we did from spring through fall last year. I know the rain is depressing, but it's been 90-95 already and everything is wilting. We live in a world of extremes now I guess! Oh and very nice shot btw.
I feel you pain Sean. I will be where you are when summer is over. All my photos (except very few) in last maybe 2 months were taken outside. I don't know what I'm going to do when it gets really nasty rainy and cold in a fall. Hope your weather gets better soon :-)
I like your little entries with each picture you do, it invites us into a little part of your life. I am glad you're seeing clearly now, you wait after the rain clears you'll get a shot of the most amazing sunrise!
Nice texture and DOF.
