This is a shot I have been planning to take for a few weeks, it just needed the farmer to plough the field.
It is of Mere Hill, and Mere Hill Spinney looking northwest from Cotes, near Loughborough.
I love the rich red brown colour of the soil, which I believe is boulder clay.
Leicestershire is a farming county, famous for Stilton Cheese, Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and Red Leicester Cheese. This rolling countryside typifies the county. I love so many views in our area.
I took a shot from the other side of the hill back in February at the start of my project.
@tulipgirl@soboy5 Thanks guys. Yep, it is England. Farmers aren't allowed to cut trees down just for the hell of it, and are encouraged to protect wildlife habitat. There are laws concerning when you can cut hedgerows so as not to disturb nesting birds.
Stunning shot Sean, wonderful colours. Like your text - we are really quite lucky to live in Britain as far as the countryside goes. I don't think they are going to plough around us this year - they just harrow a bit and then plant on top of the turned over stubble. I miss the wonderful ridges and furrows.
That's what I call forward planning Sean!!! Farmers can get the single farm payment if you don't plough to the edges of the fields & only cut your hedges every two years, well worth doing for obvious reasons all round.
Was just commenting on this when screams diverted my attention!! Wanted to say how beautiful this is, you couldn't have picked a better day to take it a fav!
What a beautiful landscape, the colours are so rich and deep and that early morning sun is just beginning to rise above the horizon. Well thought out and executed Sean...
While I know of both those cheeses, I don't believe I've tried either. What a glorious landscape. Thanks to the farmer for ploughing and Mother Nature for giving you such a beautiful day.
Is this spinney a protected area? How come the farm goes around it?
