On sunday, Ben and I had several hours photographing Red Squirrels with award winning photographer Simon Philpotts, in the Yorkshire Dales above Hawes.
Ben has always wanted to see a Red Squirrel, so we bought him a photo day for his birthday back in July. I should explain that our native Red Squirrel has largely been wiped out in my lifetime by the Grey Squirrel, but the further north you go in the UK, the more Red's still exist. This was the first time I had seen Reds since I was a teenager, 30 or so years ago.
We were both fortunate that it was a lovely sunny day, affording us the chance to get some lovely shots from Simon's hide.
Simon is a great bloke, very helpful, knowledgable and a great photographer. We will definitely be back on a different workshop with him at some point. Here is a link to his website.
Such a great opportunity to learn from the master & such a rewarding birthday present for Ben...sounds like he is taking after you!!!!! I love this shot but especially the light on the squirrel, it is so beautiful the way it catches the tips of the feet, hands & ears!
A great privilege to see these reds & something I haven't seen since holidays in Scotland years ago!
A very big fave!!!
What a fabulous present, you were both richly awarded with these fine opportunities for photographing these beautiful animals. I hate to see the non-native greys in our garden!
Great shot Sean...
