Ben likes collecting things like this, he has all sorts of stuff on his window sill, bookcase, chest of drawers, shelves, desk etc etc. Today, this collection of small items from Muji saved the november-list day for me.
Well, the floods are rather restricting travel around Loughborough and the wider area today, with 2 of the 3 roads into Loughborough flooded, meaning it took me 90 minutes to get the kids to school and get back home today, and then a further 90 minutes to fetch them, a round trip of about 12 miles!!
I couldn't get to the local landmark that I wanted to shoot, so have opted for this alternative! I thought that it was a bit dull and unimaginative, but th ecomments received thus far suggest I am being a touch hard on myself. You are all too kind!! I am rather busy today, I was due out this evening at an Elbow concert but that has gone for a ball of chalk, so I may try something that has been in my head photographically for a week or two!
Ha ha with your processing skills that shouldn't be too hard!! One to encompass most of the world by the look of all these.......how clever of you/Ben to have these!! 'specially for today!! love how you've taken ths with the stark black backdrop.
Oh Sean this is so creative and unique! Wonderful interpretation of the word and for all that work a definite FAV! ..and yes the rainbow would be nice..:0)
I like this shot of world-wide architectural shapes - inspired idea for Landmark! (love Muji by the way!) Perfect in monochrome to emphasise the shapes with great lighting.
What a shame you're missing Elbow! Hope the weather doesn't affect you too badly for much longer. We've had predictions of bad weather too but nothing too bad yet... although my bedroom window started leaking last night in the rain. And I've heard rumours of minus 15 happening around the country some time this week?! Great photo though, definitely not dull. There is a strange simplicity to it which I enjoy, and it almost looks a bit unreal... all in a good way though haha!
@strachs It's just one of those things Sarah. I was taking my eldest lad Sam, who has stacks of important homework ahead of GCSE assessments later this week. £75 down the tubes but hey ho. Glad you like teh shot, and make sure you wrap up warm, though the cold weather should make for some great moon shots on wednesday for the november list.
Lovely simple shot & I just love Bens shapes mostly because I love the feel & look of smooth wood like this. Beautifully shown up by the stark black back ground.
@seanoneill Ooo that's a good idea! I really want to try taking some pictures of the night sky, but I'm not sure if my camera will be up to anything with much detail? I only have the kit lens it came with. Do you have any advice because I'd love to give it a go!
Your lighting is always so good Sean and that, along with the simple black backdrop, help to make this a good image, and a very imaginative interpretation of today's word too!
@strachs Sorry I didn't reply last night Sarah. There are some great moon shots on here so my advice is search for the tag moon and have a look at the exif info on peoples shots to see what works, especially if you can find someone with the same camera and focal length as you plan. Here are links to a couple of mine. http://365project.org/seanoneill/365/2012-05-29http://365project.org/seanoneill/365/2012-01-09
I have the benefit of a 500mm lens which helps, but a kit lens should deliver a good result still, with a little bit of post processing. The three tricks for me are...
1.Make sure you get a crisp focus, so I would focus manually.
2. You will need lots of quality and sharpness in the shot so have as low an ISO as you can 100-200 maximum.
3. You need decent dof and a quick shutter speed so the moon doesn't look like a bright white fuzzy light. Set up at somewhere between f9 and f11 and have a shutter speed somewhere between 1/250 and 1/1000. You will need to experiment though! Good luck and I look forward to your efforts.
Fantastic work Sean! Love the composition and the lighting is superb. Sorry about the bad weather there for you. Hope it improves soon. Super creative though!! Love it.
