Solitude ~ 1 by seanoneill

Solitude ~ 1

Thirty minutes after I took this shot, every seat was full.

Taken at St. Mary's Stadium yesterday, where a record crowd watched my team Southampton demolish Liverpool by 3 goals to 1.

A wonderful day out for Sam, Ben and me. After years of driving the 350+ mile round trip, yesterday we took the train. A far more relaxed way to travel.

Sam has a lot of exams coming up in the next couple of months, so this may be our last visit this season.

Viewed large looks better.

This is such an interesting shot. Sort of abstract really. I like it.

Oh my gosh, until I read your narrative I couldn’t grasp what this is. Fantastic! I love the abstract quality.

striking.

Fantastic shot. You have skill in abundance but this shot proves right place right time helps massively! Brilliant

Fabulous lines and b&w. fav

Just wonderful ...fav!

Oh this is a winner for solitude theme Sean... I would put my money on it!!
March 17th, 2013
@happypat thanks Pat, well it will be a first if it happens, I've entered countless challenges and never got near a shortlist. Hope you're right :)
March 17th, 2013
Very good. That's serendipitious!
March 17th, 2013
Very effective. I like the single person sitting there to break up the pattern.
March 17th, 2013
cool repetition
March 17th, 2013
Love the repetition here. It works so well.
March 17th, 2013
I must say I love your B&Ws, it's so inspiring to try some myself. The composition is perfect and to find one person sitting there... it was meant to be. Fav.

The telephoto compression works wonders here, and the highlights on the seats are really cool. Those look like tight seats. Fav.

Congrats on making the PP with this.
March 18th, 2013
Excellent capture. I first thought it was a macro of a typewriter...
March 18th, 2013
Great shot. I didn't notice the single figure until I enlarged it. Fav.
March 19th, 2013
Another marvellous shot Sean - how do you do it (how do you find the time?) Love the repetitions. Glad you had something to celebrate afterwards!
March 19th, 2013
@yrhenwr Thank you David. I'm only shooting occasionally at the moment, and using archive shots or taking a weeks worth of shots in a day to take the pressure off. Silver Efex Pro is a brilliant piece of software, I have yet t get much further than the presets. Yes, we were 3 very happy boys on saturday night. Interestingly, I've been watching Saints for 40 years, and a Liverpool win on the south coast is as rare as hen's teeth.

@seanoneill A win over Liverpool was always special for me - a Forest season ticket holder when i lived near the City Ground back in the 'glory days'. You can rescue lesser shots with silver FX by getting to use the 'contact points' which allow you to alter brightness, contrast and structure locally
March 19th, 2013
@yrhenwr I remember standing on the Trent End myself back in the day when Liverpool were visitors. Happy days indeed. Looks like Forest are the form team again at the moment too, so hope that we get to play you again next season for the right reasons. Yes, I need to teach myself how to edit locally, I have the perfect shot with an imperfect sky that is crying out for it, and guess what, its of a steam train powering up an embankment!
March 19th, 2013
@seanoneill So maybe I was in the East Stand, looking down on you! Billy Davies has got them into the play-offs before, all to no avail! Look forward to seeing that steam train shot!
March 19th, 2013
Oooh very nicely done, Sean!!! I really like this.
March 19th, 2013
great POV Sean, love the repetition and the lone person - great job
March 19th, 2013
Coooooool. You POV is great here!!
