Loughborough backstreets ~ 22 by seanoneill

Loughborough backstreets ~ 22

Taken today on the corner of Moor Lane and Russell Street in Loughborough, about 250 yards from the Perfick Plaice Fish and Chip shop that featured earlier in this series.

It is good to see the corner shop thriving in today's Britain. Notice the meter cupboard on the side wall of the shop, it looks like the door has been kicked in!

I hope to feature this place again soon, when I will show you what is on the other corner, which may surprise you.......No cheating and going on Google Earth now!!

One last thing, though it saddens me that Cadbury's are no longer a British owned company, they still make the best chocolate.

Best via the big button. I think this is my favourite shot of this series so far.

Mmmmmm, Cadbury!! Who owns them? Our eggs have been out here in the US for months. Right after Christmas the Easter stuff was out. Such commercialism. But, love them. Fabulously processed shot and can't wait to see what is around the bend.

P.S. The Mad Hatters kicked off this week. In the end, we have a pretty great team, but it's missing one gent (actually 2 now, Andy stepped away in the end). Check us out, my friend. @madhatters

@amandal Cadbury's owned by some faceless giant corporation from your side of the pond I'm afraid.....I've seen the Mad Hatters shots but just haven't had chance to comment with the week I've had. Hopefully will get the chance to later. Yes I saw that Andy had actually left 365 as well, I hope he is ok.

Love how this has come out in mono

@seanoneill Pray for him if you are so inclined. He is really struggling and went downhill again. Things were looking up yesterday I think, but it is a battle for him.
February 13th, 2014
P.S. So America DOES have the best chocolate now, eh?;-)
February 13th, 2014
Very effective gritty feel to this, it's like a ballsier version of Coronation Street. I like!
February 13th, 2014
@amandal I'm not a prayer, though I iwll always accept the prayers of thise who are with gratitude and respect. I do believe in the strength of the human spirit, and I hope that Andy has enough good people around him to get his spirit through these dark days.

Nice processing. Looking forward to seeing whats on the other corner!

It was always such a treat for me when I would go to England and bring back bars and bars of Cadbury's. I love seeing the image of a Cadbury shop.
February 13th, 2014
Love you're processing - like the contrast - really brings out the detail in the bricks. Another cracking backstreet photo.
February 13th, 2014
A wonderful B&W image - such great detail when looked at large!! Fav!!
February 13th, 2014
Fav. This just looks fantastic large. I agree with @jocasta about the effect of the processing on the bricks, just fabulous.
February 13th, 2014
♥♥♥ btw,did you unfollow me?:(

JP
lovely shot! Does look great large! Since when isn't Cadbury an English company? I remember it used to be based round about Birmingham or does my memory fail me?
February 13th, 2014
@joemuli hi Joey, I'm baffled, no I didn't unfollow you but I can see that you are not on my friends list. I'm scratching my head here but I'll put that right now.
February 13th, 2014
@jpgiorgio it still is based in Birmingham, but it is no longer a british owned company.
February 13th, 2014
I love your b&w images. Shots like this make me feel less homesick......a huge fav!!!
February 13th, 2014
@allisonraposa thank you. How often do you visit these sceptered isles?
February 13th, 2014
Sceptred isles!!
February 13th, 2014
@seanoneill I try to head over there every other year, usually with spare room with my suitcase, then I can bring lots of British goodies back home with me....silly things such as Birds Custard, Sage stuffing, Maggie gravy.....the must have things that you can't get over here :-)
February 13th, 2014
@allisonraposa they would be on my list, with Cadburys Dairy Milk, Marmite, proper bacon, my own real ale, Twinings Tea and a Chicken Madras!! That's a perfect day for me!!
February 13th, 2014
@seanoneill I forgot real bacon, although I have found a place that does a mean curry, and I've lots, and most of them aren't up to par, but this one place is really good. Now I'm hungry :-) Btw my son loved that Two Ronnies, Fork Handle sketch.......he giggled so much watching it :-)
February 13th, 2014
@allisonraposa so glad Aaron liked it. Is he old enough for Blackadder? Only Fools and Horses? Or the Two Ronnie's Mispronunciation sketch or Mastermind specialist subject of answering the question before...I'm smiling just typing these suggestions!! All part of his education, along with slowly building up to eating a Chicken Madras with a Naan bread the size of an Elephants ear and a couple of pints of cooking lager. Perhaps the lager can wait!!
February 13th, 2014
@seanoneill lolol all the good things he has to look forward to :-) Why is it that the comedy that we grew up with, seems so much better than the comedy of today. I like to think he'd love Only Fools and Horses, because I did.....it still makes me giggle, as for the lager.......hopefully when he's at the drinking age, he'll find something decent...non of this watery Budweiser stuff :-)

Wonderful shot Sean, spotted this on Trending and knew it was one of yours. Great British Corner Shoppe.
February 14th, 2014
Nice Shot.
February 14th, 2014
lovely homage to the old tradition... in Montreal where i grew up we would call these places "depanneurs" - something to get you out of trouble and moving again :)
February 14th, 2014
Cool contrasty B&W :)
February 14th, 2014
Gorgeous detail, lovely yesteryear feel too it!
February 14th, 2014
great details and a cool shot of this survivor from the past
February 15th, 2014
A wonderful series Sean. With places like this on your doorstep, I can't understand why you didn't do it sooner!
February 16th, 2014
Like it. So very British. We had a bog argument about posh chocolate vs. Cadbury;s last week. Although don't they own green and blacks now? That's my favourite so it might count.
February 16th, 2014
Great composition and a lot to take in.
February 16th, 2014
I agree this looks so British. Love the brick texture of the building. Wonderful shot!
February 18th, 2014
Love the composition and texture of the bricks.
February 18th, 2014
I want to go in and buy something
February 20th, 2014
Great photo, fav for me. I believe Cadbury are now owned by Kraft. I prefer Lindt chocolate over any other brand.-
February 20th, 2014
love this shot and another fav for me, great b&w processing on this and as always great composition...can't wait to see what shot of round the corner is...
