When I walked around the disused Clipstone Colliery, I was taken aback by the sheer amount of photo opportunities that seem to tell a story.
Who sat in this chair, what did this sign mean, what did this piece of machinery do, where did this door lead to, who worked here, where are they now, how were they affected by the pit closing? The list of unanswered questions goes on and on.
This really was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and now I have done it, I am desperate to do more, so if anyone knows of any more disused places like this in the UK, let me know!!
This shot was at the bottom of a staircase. You can see that anything work stealing has been, with all the electrical cable gone. I was attracted by the empty lager can in the box on the wall. This has obviously been a drinking den for some of the village youth at some point.
This shot also fits neatly with a lot of my recent shots where I concentrate in form, texture, contrast, shape and sometimes colour. The colour verison will be posted to album 2.
I echo your sentiments, Sean. We have a disused brickworks nearby and a group of volunteers open it up about four times a year and organise a theme day. http://www.bursledonbrickworks.org.uk
We have a dis-used milk factory near us. I passed it yesterday and thought what great opportunities there are for photography in these places. I love all the rectangles and squares in this composition and the contrast with the smashed window. Like the 'gritty' processing too!
great textures and forms here
(lots of factories on the estate I was in on Thursday - not sure how easy to get into the interesting buildings it would be, but there were a couple of derelict buildings in amongst the working places, and you got views of interesting stuff all around)
