Loughborough Backstreets ~ 32 by seanoneill

Loughborough Backstreets ~ 32

My car had its MOT test first thing this morning, and passed thankfully. While it was being done Rebecca and I walked up into town and bought a few imminent birthday cards and presents, picked up my new glasses, bought the boys some new clothes (which received approval on returning home!) and had a coffee.

I took my X-Pro 1 and my new 18-55mm. As it was early I wandered round the back of a couple of places. This is at the back of the Town Tub on Swan Street. So much going on!!

The boys have since been ferried into town and over to a friends in Leicester so at 12-45, Rebecca and I now have a rare afternoon on our own, so lunch at a local pub beckons, beofre setting up my new Canon Pro 10 A3 printer and fetching the boys back this evening!

On a side note, we saw the Threepenny Opera at Nottingham Playhouse last night. It is now on tour to Ipswich,Birmingham and Leeds. The cast were a mix of able bodied, disabled, blind, deaf, amputee and dwarf actors. It was utterly brilliant, and I would recommend that anyone looking for an entertaining night out at the theatre look it up.
you compose these shots so well, fascinating details

another big hit with me. Do you shot in Jpeg or RAW? In colour in JPEG or straight into b and w? Just finding my feet with processing my images into b and w.
March 8th, 2014
@newbank Thanks. A combination of Fine JPeg only and JPeg and RAW. This is the latter. I alway shoot in colour, tweak in CS5 and then convert to B+W in Silver Efex Pro before making any final adjustments in CS5.

Ta. CS5 is that photoshop? I'm guessing so I've got cs2 free download.....saving money to buy some new software at some point in the far off future.
March 8th, 2014
@newbank yes, CS5 is photoshop. Photoshop Elements is pretty good and is less than 50 quid I think.SFX pro is a plug in that is about £100 but comes bundled with other software and is a great investment. There is lots of free stuff on the web too. Good luck choosing!

You really have a knack for capturing the nitty gritty of a city in a beautiful way.

There is a lot of stuff crammed in on the back of this building. Great photo.

A busy scene without busy people. Lots to enjoy here.

This is very fascinating. Such a great street shot!

I love this shot, Sean. I am reminded of the recent David Lynch exhibition - post-industrial decay. Superb processing.

I await news of the A3 printer.

Forgot to say - Fav

@gooner46 Cheers Chris, it has arrived, I just need to do a bit of space juggling in my office as the previous Canon printer was only A4, so is smaller!!
March 8th, 2014
The same goes for this shot, it's a very busy scene, yet it is composed in a way that brings the lines together in an excellent photo.

The play sounds brilliant.

I've been thinking of starting to print myself too. I'm thinking of having a few frames up and change the photos in them from time to time. But I want a new lens too ;-)

Enjoyed the detail here.
March 8th, 2014
Beautiful shot! I guess that in real life it;s rather hard to spot the beauty of it.
March 8th, 2014
Really admire your ability to make something so mundane look so fantastic. Someone else mentioned that show, think it's coming to the REP, will look it up
March 8th, 2014
Lots of detail in this - love all the pipes and tubes…..
March 8th, 2014
So much going on - a FAV for me.
March 8th, 2014
First rate day!!!! I love your eye and wandering spirit.

There's so much to look at! It's so sharp that I feel like I could walk right in!
March 9th, 2014
Wonderful, gritty B&W. Fuji Camera? Canon printer? Have you turned your back on your Nikon (the dark side of the force)?
March 9th, 2014
ps Fav. so much to look at!

The Opera sounds wonderful! Nice gritty processing for this interesting place.

I love the harsh, sharp look to this, it works well with the subject matter. Fab. shot and processing, Sean. Fav.
Been thinking about Ben and all of you today. I hope his surgery went well.

@dulciknit Thank you Alison, I have just replied to your email and updated you on Ben's op, which has gone very well.

I'm absolutely delighted to hear that Ben's op. went well, Sean. It must be a great relief for you all. All good wishes to him for a speedy recovery.
I hadn't sent you an e-mail, though. Must be another Alison?
