S for Stately Statues

Today I met a friend for a lovely wander around the grounds of Hall Place. We haven't managed to see each other in nearly a year and it was so nice to chat, catch up and drink coffee.

These 10 fantastic topiarys are living statues of mythical animals. They are The Queen's Beasts and these ones were planted in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The mythical beasts were traditionally decorated onto warriors shields, in days gone by, to identify themselves from the enemy. I saw the topiary a few weeks ago and they had become a bit straggly but now the gardeners are back at work they've all been manicured and look spectacular.
Those are very interesting. I’d never heard of them, so thanks for sharing the history with the adorable picture.
