Happy Canada Day! by sharleen

Happy Canada Day!

Canada turned 147 years old today. Here, in my town of Châteauguay, just across the river from Montréal, there were festivities and merrymaking throughout the day and evening.

As always, the bagpiper begins the affair. Then, the party starts and the stage is alive with beautiful Celtic dancers, lively bands and soulful singers. We usually have our neighbours, the amazing Mohawk dancers and drummers but unfortunately this year, they did not perform. I personally was so very disappointed and I look forward to seeing them next year. However, the Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke will be hosting their Pow Wow this weekend, July 12 & 13! This is spectacular.

The weather was intense with a "real feel" of 41 degrees Celsius (105 Fahrenheit)! A day to remember for so many reasons but most of all, because we are celebrating this wonderful country.

Cool. I love Canada Day! Yes, seriously. Been going there for vacations since I was a kid.Darn exchange rate is making it more difficult now, though.
