Light pollution by shepherdman

Light pollution

A bit of an experimental one this one. The idea was to use the LED collar lights on the dogs to produce a track of them running around. I set up the camera on a tripod, with the dogs lying just in front. Just as the shutter opened I shouted “GO!” and they sprinted off across the field. What have I learned? That when two dogs are running away from you at full speed, you can’t see the collar lights! I should have thought of that. The light tracks only appeared when they turned around to see what I was up to. From the lighting it appears that we live on the edge of an industrial complex. The lights behind the pylon are from a small village a couple of miles away, and I suppose that the general glow is light from the nearest town 5 miles away, all reflected in the light snow that was beginning to fall. After midnight there would be a lot less light pollution – street lights in all the local villages are turned off.
LOL! Well done for experimenting! Our light pollution is the same as yours - and we have a glow from a small town about 6 miles away in the same way, but like you late at night there isn't much light around and I count myself so lucky that we can easily see the stars.
