The end (of the snow) is nigh

They promised us snow! That nice weatherman John Hammond promised us 10cm of fresh snow overnight, followed by a frosty sunny morning, perfect conditions for winter dog walk before the thaw set in. Instead it rained. The temperature was 0C, but it rained. How does that work? At least it was a sunny morning, and I donned wellies for the first time in a week, expecting mud and slush, but the forecast of frost had been correct, with much of the lying snow still on the ground. We went up Croft Hill, which was a struggle, since a combination of a week of sledging, rain, and frost left slopes suitable for a bob sleigh – smooth, shiny and very slippery to a degree not obvious in this photo. Even 4-paw drive was barely adequate in some places. After sliding down the far side of the hill, we joined the snow covered path at the bottom, which was just as slippery, but at least not as steep. We came back through a wood, and found the expected mud and slush. Oh well, at least we’ve had a week of clean dogs.
Great shot!! Wonderful rays of sun. And yes, clean dogs a definite bonus!

The rain washed all our snow that's been lying for a week this afternoon. I like your long shadows.
