A pair of swans on a local wildlife pond has featured once or twice on 365, but rarely under a blue sky. In winter, when the pond froze, they migrated to the adjacent river, and went on a winter cruise for about a mile upstream, enjoying a change of scenery, especially when winter floods opened up the prospect of a field trip when the river burst its banks. They returned to the wildlife pond in spring for a bit of home-making. The large nest was possibly a bit too close to the footpath, and despite signs requesting that dog walkers take an alternative route, they may have been disturbed – we never saw any cygnets.
