We travelled along a country road to Lake Malign, a route, the guidebook assured us, full of wildlife. We stopped at Medicine Lake, which disappears into an underground river in dry weather. The First Nation tribes thought that the disappearance was magical, and magic was the responsibility of the Medicine Man. We spotted these chaps doing strange things with a camera and bed-sheet, and went down to the shore to investigate. They were photographing the shoreline geology and plants, planning to re-create a typical Rockies lake-side shore elsewhere. The sheet diffused the strong sunshine.
A few minutes later we pulled in behind three cars, to see a black bear and a young cub grazing contentedly at the side of the road. @shepherdmanswife leaned as far out of the window as she could (to my great relief she didn’t get out of the car, although she was tempted), and was delighted when the bears strolled casually towards us, totally ignoring the queue of cars. They walked past the car, so close that @shepherdmanswife could have stroked them (she didn’t) and then continued on, eventually disappearing amongst the roadside shrubs behind us. It was brilliant to have such a close encounter with the bears. See http://365project.org/shepherdmanswife/more/2014-09-28 for the photo.
Thank you for telling us the background to this shot. It would have been difficult to decide what they were up to otherwise! Really like the silhouette and reflections Great capture. Fav
What amazing timing to find such an interesting shot (for me it brought to mind performing shadow plays at Guide camp) Awesome silhouette - I'm off to check out the bears.
Great find and shot.
