A last minute planned extra night in the Rockies meant a move to a hotel in Lake Louise, 160 miles back down the Icefield Parkway. We got up early to be in Lake Louise by mid-morning, watching the morning mist rising off of Lake Pyramid, opposite our lodge, with a backdrop of mountains glowing in the sunrise. While I was checking out of the hotel @shepherdmanswife was photographing the mist on Lake Pyramid and then turned her attentions to a group of female deer gathered in the car park. They were very large deer….
The receptionist followed me outside and shouted to @shepherdmanswife to keep the car between her and the “deer”. They were elk, and the receptionist pointed out that even the females can be aggressive. A local dog walker had been chased for 20 minutes the previous day, as she kept keeping trees between her and the elk. And, of course, where there are cows, somewhere in the bushes will be a bull. And from yesterday’s photo we all know how bulls tend react to @shepherdmanswife….
I have been following @shepherdmanswife for quite some time and have been enjoying her trip around the Rockies so had to have a look at your photos too - what a wonderful trip you are having and such glorious photos bringing back memories of a similar trip we took some years ago. - I think my other half would be with you on the problems of controlling a wife with a camera!!
You are in one of the most beautiful places on this planet. I have been coast to coast in Canada, but never to Lake Louise. It is on my list! Beautiful shot!
When we lived in Alberta, we used to take visits to Banff and Jasper quite often - even honeymooned in Banff (long before it became a tourist mecca). It has got to be one of the most beautiful wild places on earth. Great shot - shows the immensity of everything
You must know by now that photographers do everything to get a great shot. Love your narrative. The shot is lovely with the golden light on the mountain
