365 is full of gorgeous sunsets, often much better images than I can manage, and so I don’t upload many, but this one, a couple of weeks ago, was exceptional. It really needed an expanse of sea, or a large lake, to reflect the sky for full effect, but I had to make do with a ploughed field, somewhat lacking in reflectivity. The sunset developed as the dogs and I followed a path on the far side of the shallow valley behind our home, getting more vivid as I decided to go along a grassy field edge rather than follow a muddy quarry road, the originally planned route. This shot was taken as I walked down one side of the field, the sky becoming more crimson as I turned west along the field bottom, and into the sunset. By the time I was on the final field edge, the horizon was a deep blood red behind the silhouettes of trees. The only problem was that I now had a high hedge between me and the sunset, and was only able to catch glimpses of the glory through leafy and twiggy gaps in the hedge. By the time I was back in the open, the light was fading, too dark for more photographs. If only I had ignored the mud I would have enjoyed the full spectacle from the higher up quarry road. The dogs were happier though - they had avoided a post-walk hosing down.
You still got a great shot though. I like how the more severe horizontal lines at the bottom of the sky morph into the more abstract shapes of the upper sky. And all with no muddy feet!
