ith the storm clouds ahead of us and evening sunshine in the west we could see heavy rain
sweeping across the horizon from the clouds that had given us a few minutes of soaking after we left
home before heading north. The square frame in the background spans a dirt track leading to a sand
quarry, now depleted and being “restored”. Any large vehicles unable to pass beneath the frame will
take down the power the three cables of the power lines that supply a farm a further half miles
away. From across the fields we could hear the chugging of the diesel pump that removes water
from what is left of the excavations – after the earlier rain it would have been working overtime. The "cow’s field” was certainly soggy, and Tia had great fun seeking out the pools in the low lying areas
of the pasture, and trying to distribute the water as far and wide as possible
