Lazy river by shepherdman

Lazy river

Morning dog walks are a delight at the moment, with the morning sun still low on the horizon, and a chill in the still air, as one set of wellies and two sets of paws leave tracks in the dew-laden grass of the field track. With no livestock in residence we cross the footbridge to the "cows field", and follow the river bank upstream, unfenced since the flock of sheep that grazed the pasture until a few weeks ago broke through the wire to seek dietary variety from the riverside trees and shrubs. A few days after rainfall, but before the water level drops to expose stones and mud banks that ripple the stream, the river flow slows down, meandering lazily alongside the pasture, the surface smooth and full of reflections.
Your words are so good I can just imagine the walking along this quiet stream!
