The larder of the countryside must be well stocked, because the birds are feeding less, and the nests must be finished because the birds have stopped taking the dog fur that we put out for them. The squirrels, on the other hand, never miss an opportunity. This one was at my @ros ‘s house in Yorkshire while we were there a couple of weeks ago, spotted from her kitchen window. Squirrels at home tend to stay in the trees at the far end of the garden, maybe because one of our cats, Inca, has a habit of sitting hopefully beneath the bird feeders. She would be no match for a squirrel, and since she has a distinct limp after suffering a broken leg a few years ago (we never found out exactly how – she was in the house at the time! We suspect a mis-timed leap onto a high bookshelf), Inca’s bird catching days are over, no doubt to the relief of the birds.
these guys can be so much trouble at the feeders but they are just so darn cute. can't resist them. what a great capture, so much detail. look at those whiskers!
