Maybe not the best view for a picnic, but first impressions can be deceiving. The picnic tables are on high ground, and behind me, the Leicestershire countryside extends to the low hills of Charnwood Forest in the far distance. In front the ground descends steeply before dropping 300 feet to the quarry floor, the quarry buildings on the far side. Croft hill rises to the right, but otherwise there are extensive views to East Leicestershire, Warwickshire, and to the distant windfarms of Northamptonshire. Unsurpringly these tables can be very busy in fine weather.
