We often see kestrels sitting on fence posts around the quarry edge, but they generally launch themselves into the air before we get close enough for a shot, even for @shepherdmanswife 's lenses. This evening this chap (or lady?) sat on a pile of granite chips just watching the dogs watching him (or indeed her), who were safely sitting behind the fence. The kestrel was still there when we returned, perhaps enjoying the evening sunshine while digesting a mouse.
Great capture I like the texture of the gravel as well. I looked outside the other day and there was a sparrow hawk sitting on the garden fence of course no camera to hand so I just had to watch it watch me.
@rjb71 I once spent ages watching a sparrowhawk perched n the garden, camera and tripod poised for a shot of its take off. It was half way to to next vilage by the time my finger pressed the shutter!
