Almost empty

Why almost empty? Because there is mush-room on the image. Get it?? Sorry. Not entirely sure what these fungi are - my best guess from my wildlife book is a sort of parasol mushroom, maybe a shaggy parasol. With my lack of confidence in identification I'm not sure that I would be taking them home for breakfast.
Cool picture.

My first thought was shaggy scaly cap, but I'm not sure! Could be a scaly cap, a parasol or something else entirely, such is the way with mushrooms!

I went on a mushroom ID course a few years ago and we were told there that the world's three top mushroom experts all died from eating poisonous mushrooms. I've no idea if that's true or not, but even the 'experts' can get mushrooms mixed up as some are so difficult!

@roachling - that's an amazing fact if indeed it is a fact! They look rather old here - go sort of scaly after a few days.

Wonderful picture! However, taking them home for dinner doesn't sound like a great idea. :-)

Nice textures on their caps.

We have a ‘Shaggy Parasol’ fungus here in Australia. It looks similar to me. It is attractive in the wild, but I wouldn’t eat it.

oh they are superb!

@busylady Not at night. Saw them under trees during morning dog walk. It was under exposed which gave dark background, by accident not design!
