Went back to Barmouth today. Took a ferry across to the steam railway. The dogs were terrified getting on and off the tiny ferry. We knew we were only going one way. We hadn't expected that response from the dogs. Having got to the other side of the estuary to catch the steam train to Fairbourne, we were told that the steam train doesn't run on mondays and fridays. OK, so we'll walk to Fairbourne and do the circular walk around the dunes. No, we couldn't do that as they were digging up the pathway. The diversion took us a long way out of our way so we decided to catch the mainline train back to Barmouth. We got to the train station an hour before the train was due. It was miserable weather, raining on and off, very noisy because of a road sweeper, no cafe to wait in, so we decided to walk to the bridge over the estuary. This turned out to be a long and quite dangerous road walk with no footpath and lots of blind bends in the rain. Thank goodness the dogs are not phased by cars, lorries and coaches rushing past within inches of them. So we got to the village before the bridge and decided to catch the main line train for one stop to get us the last mile back to Barmouth. Just made it in time. Poor dogs were again terrified at having to get on a train. All these new experiences for them. The ticket collector didn't charge us. He said it wasn't worth getting our money out or him issuing the tickets as it was only one stop. I'm glad it wasn't any further as Tia, our young rescue dog was still shaking when we got off and I was getting concerned that she may leave a present on board!
The dogs were so pleased to see the car and got in as fast as they could. I must say I was glad to get back too as I was getting a bit fed up walking in the rain.......but hey ho, this is Wales after all!
Sounds as if you and the dogs had quite a day. How nice that you rescued Tia and gave her a good home! I think this picture is superb, beautiful composition. I love the silhouette of the bridge the train is on, and the train is quite beautiful itself, especially when this is viewed large. Definitely a fav for me!
