My daughter-in-law gave me a bunch of Lilys last weekend when they were here visiting for the weekend. She had carefully cut all of the stamens out of the flowers that had already opened as the pollen is highly toxic to cats. If they get it on their fur and lick it off they will die within as short a time as a couple of hours. Doesn't bear thinking about!
I came home from work today to see another of the flowers was opening, complete with toxic stamens. As they are so beautiful, I took a few photos before cutting them off.
Terrific macro - I never realised the stamens were toxic, I always cut mine out because it reduces the powerful perfume which can be overbearing in a small house!...FAV BTW!
well you learn something new every day - had no idea about the toxicity to cats - probably because have every other species of animal but cats hahaha - so know not much about them
Love the way you have focused this, fav for me. I didn't know that about lily pollen--will avoid having lilies in my apartment at all, and enjoy them outside.
