our 9 year old Somali (long coated Abyssinian)
Somali's are so affectionate. Inca won't leave me alone. She's the one that leaps through the air to land on my shoulder to get a ride around the house or garden and have a cuddle into my neck at the same time!
If you want a cat that just loves it's owner and will be there with you whatever, then this is the breed for you. However, beware, Somali's are not suitable as indoor only cats as they love to go and hunt around the garden (Inca brings mice home, no birds ) We keep her inside for the whole of June when the baby birds are leaving their nests. The breed is also not traffic savvy. They will sit in the middle of the road and flutter their eye lashes at approaching cars. We lost Sam, Inca's son, to a car when he was 8 months old. So, not a good breed to have if you live on a busy road. I live on a country lane and still lost Sam. Having said all that, the Somali breed are wonderful to be owned by!
I absolutely love cats! What an awesome cat to have that will take a flying leap and land on your shoulder. I wish I had one. The one I have now though I wouldn't trade for the world. Thank you for educating me about this. I didn't know they existed. I knew the short haired ones did.
OK, I was all like "note to self: look up Somali cats, get one ASAP, wear clothes with padded shoulders...." until I read your next sentence that broke my heart. Sorry about Sam, and I hope Inca has gotten much wiser over the years. She is an amazingly gorgeous cat, and also looks smart and like a very good hunter! You have the most beautiful cats, and your photos do them justice!
Beautiful photo - really love the processing. Our current one is a 16 year old drain cat that we brought back from SIngapore. I have always said that I wont have another cat because of the bird carnage. Keeping them in for June is such a good idea - maybe I will have a re-think when the time comes.........
What a gorgeous capture of Inca! And thank you for the info on the breed. Sounds like the almost perfect cat for me. My cat would love to go outside too but the outside world is too dangerous for him. And big Fav!
