on Mam Tor in the Peak District this morning.
I got up at 03.20 am and was out of the house by 03.50 am to drive the 89 miles up to the Peak District. Mam Tor overlooks the town of Castleton. It has been a dream of mine to capture the valley full of mist as the sun comes up.
I arrived at 05.45 am and climbed up to the top of the Tor, with one of our dogs, in the pitch black. With just a torch to navigate by it was a bit scary especially when Tia started to growl at someone I couldn't see or hear! I needn't have worried. Everyone that came up was so friendly. I had an amazing time on the Tor and spent 4 hours up there taking photos as the landscape changed. I became a model for a photographer and then Tia did. We came down to the car around 10 am where people were still arriving. It was still an amazing sight as the mist kept moving around in the valley. Tia had her breakfast and I had a cuppa tea from the flask made the night before. Tasted good!
At least 3 of the 15 or so photographers told me how lucky I was to come today. The way the mist and sunrise was only happens once or twice a year! One of them had been every morning this week and had been disappointed as the area was covered in fog. Looks like I hit the jackpot. Well worth the early morning and 89 mile drive to get there and capture some amazing photos. I'll put a few on this week for you all to see.
Stunning, I love how you have caught the other photographer, you have really hit the jackpot! My son would have loved to do this, alas I will just have to enjoy your photos.
Congratulations ! And a big fav from me.
Now that's dedication. It sounds like an amazing experience and I guess pretty spiritual too. Your photo is outstanding. Looking forward to seeing more. Fav.
I really, really, REALLY wish I could FAV this more than once!! It is AMAZING, and so well worth the early morning rise, the long drive and hike in the dark, and at the end to be rewarded with a sight like this, and to have the skill to capture it!! So well done, Chantal!!
You should be so proud of this photo......incredible picture & so worth all the climbing in the early hours. TT top slot must be! Look forward to seeing some more! Fave of course!
How many times am I allowed to fav this one!! Spectacular sight you were treated to. It takes your breath away against black. Love the way you composed this particular shot with the silhouette of another photographer. How lucky you were to pick this day. Can't wait to see more shots from this morning.
Hands-clapping fav. What a super shot... just gorgeous. Almost better, your tale of how this came to be. So cool, that Tia came with you. :) The silhouette of the photographer is a metaphor for your photo.
Oh my gosh -- this is absolutely phenomenal and worth what it took to get there. I admire you for all you went through to take it. WOW, fav a hundred times over. I hope to see this at the top of TT next week. WOW! And please post more!
If you are prepared to make such an effort for your photo then you deserve such a view. I have never caught a cloud inversion as not in the right place at the right time and certainly not waking in the dark! I would probably get lost. Super shot and good to have the photographer subject for scale.
I've walked the Mam Tor path and its a great walk. This shot looks Wonderful, but what really makes it special is the inclusion of the photographer, the person adds perspective and realism to the image. Fav
I came back to have another look Chantal! I have seen other photos like this one adorning photography magazine covers. Talk about a shot of a life time! I more than made it worth getting up that early and enduring such a long drive to find these conditions!
@michaelelliott if you look at the other 3 shots I put on, you will see the ridge between the 2 valleys. He was shooting the mist pouring over the ridge!
This is simply jaw droppingly stunning! Can't think of the words to express my thoughts when I saw this! Such an inspiration to amateur photographers like myself!
I have just seen your series of photos of Mam Tor. It was a sunny day when I walked here. These photos are just stunning. Thank you so much for sharing and for bringing back happy memories. I stayed in Castleton.
Stunning Chantal and worthy of that #1 spot on TT! Congratulations on that and on getting such a wonderful image and also for your dedication to your art. Fav
I missed this the first time as I have not been posting daily. Congratulations on number one. This is an astonishing photograph, a true work of art and a huge fav!
Congrats on TT -- I KNEW this would be at the top this week, how could idt not? This is really an incredible shot and I could imagine it on the cover of one of the nature magazines or photography ones.
Out of this world!!!!! What are you doing with your photography, your talent is immense!!!! Fav seems too small a word to describe how I feel about this
Congratulations ! And a big fav from me.
You are really dedicated to your photography to get up that early and drive 89 miles but I it was most definitely worth it.
I hope to one day have a similar experience with seeing/capturing aurorae.
