aaaaaaalmost.....

This guy was the first stranger I ever asked if I could photograph. When we pulled up to the park, this guy caught my eye. He somehow exhibited something of a goose whisperer feel. I can't explain why, but I felt absolutely no fear in asking. In fact, the whole scene brought a smile to my face. He was kneeling down with pieces of bread in his hand and would only give it to whichever goose came close enough to take it. After snapping a few pics, I noticed one of the geese hobbling. That's when he pointed out that there was fishing line tangled around the goose's leg. This guy was trying to capture it to try to get the line off. His son was standing by with a blanket to throw over the goose at the right time. Unfortunately, he ran out of bread before that particular goose was bold enough to come up to him, and the geese began to wander away once they realized there was no more. Dad and son stayed close to the crippled goose, moving with him where ever he went, with the son receiving instructions to use the blanket if the goose made any move away from the dad. As you can see, the goose made the one move neither of them could counter - UP and away! Dad tried his best, and so did the son, but they were unable to capture him while I was there. The goose did fly down to the river, and I followed and continued to get pics of all of them, which is when I noticed my old friend, the guy on the swing! So I was taking pics of dad, son and goose, and then turning around and sneaking pics of the swinger. And that's how I ended up with two street shots in one night!

In both of these shots with this guy, son, and geese, it's after sunset, under a bunch of pine trees, with ISO 1000, 1/250 sec, and increased exposure of +2 - +3 steps in post processing. NOT great photos technically, but, again, first successful dance with street photog, and LOVED IT! Have the nerve to do it again!!!
@icamera As promised!

Good for you! Interesting backdrop to this photo, and I hope the goose eventually got the fishing line off. Nice shot all around.

This is really a moment. Even without the words (which I'm glad to have read), you know instantly that this is a story. Great action. (congrats for the boldness; I've asked a few times, but the experience didn't make it easier the next time, alas. Not that I had anything but good experiences, mind you.)

Pam
Ha ha goose whisperer. I do hope that they eventually got the fishing line off of the goose. I really hate it when people leave fishing line laying around. I have seen birds tangled in it, and it is heart breaking. Great shot.

Poor old goose but perfect timing on your part Ashley. Hope it's now free of the fishing line.

Great action! Nicely done :-) I wish they would have captured the goose but I'm not surprised that it got away...they are surprisingly agile. I appreciate the composition that has all the components for the complete story; the 'catch' in action, geese evading and the blanket. I've really enjoyed viewing!
