I had such a surprise this morning I went to fill my squirrel feeder up and as I approached a squirrel popped out, it had been hiding in the box again. I then went back to fill the bird feeders up and disturbed him again. This time he actually ran right over my feet, then sat and looked at me unfortunately I didn't have my camera!!! Later I was attending some plant pots and the squirrel was sat eating, luckily I had taken my camera out this time just in case. The Squirrel would be no more than 1.5 meters away when I took this shot. You can see the teeth marks in the hazel nut as he was scrapping it to open it.
When we visited in Scotland we kept an eye out for 2 weeks hoping to see one no luck .on our last day one popped up on the balcony table to say hello.Lovely shot
@shirleybankfarm@terryliv I'm also in a 'frontier area'. The greys spread from the south and there are still parts of Scotland they haven't reached. SWT (Scottish Wildlife Trust) has a national project and where I am they linked with the National Park Authority. They have a website for reporting sightings of both kinds. We do see more reds than greys nowadays which is brilliant.
@sheilaw Thanks Sheila. Our daughter lived in Ealing London for many years and during our many visits, we only ever saw the greys in the parks there. It's great that they are trying to contain the problem.
