Enjoying a feast

Now winter is knocking on the door my little squirrel friends are back quite frequently. This little chap was having a good feed today. Often they can be seen taking nuts from the box and scurrying off and burying them somewhere.
I love his rusty colour, he is very intent on his treat :)

I just love to see the red squirrels. they look so much prettier than ours.
I got the light with decoration back up and made a display for the alcove. Hans just has to string the lights still and then I can take a picture of it. fav for the red one.

A lovely capture - Fav I wish we had red ones here! I hope you haven't been badly affected by the floods up your way

@rosiekind Thank you Rosie, we only have red squirrels in this area, although it is a uphill battle to keep the greys out. I have just posted a borrowed picture of the floods in Appleby which is 7 miles from us. We escaped flooding here although the village river did burst it's banks and all the roads around were flooded. A few houses in the village and the next one got water in but none very deep.

@happypat Thank you Pat, they are a lovely colour, although some can be quite dark brown on their backs as well as some having quite blond tails.
December 15th, 2015
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie, we are very lucky and are managing to keep the greys out of this area.
December 15th, 2015
@hermann Thank you Sally, they love the peanuts in shells, the only trouble they leave the shells all over the place.
December 15th, 2015
@gijsje thank you for your lovely comment.
December 15th, 2015
@bruni Thank you for your kind comment Burni. I also think the red Squirrels are much cuter than the greys.
December 15th, 2015
@roachling Thank you Louise, I can sometimes have 2 or 3 in the garden at the same time. Then they are fun to watch as they fight over the feeders.

@deborah63 Thank you Debbie

@flowerfairyann Their tails can be so different, always bushy but different colours. That is one of the ways I can tell I have different ones coming into the garden.

December 16th, 2015
@milaniet I often find little holes in my lawn where they have dug things up, but they never seem to remember where they buried stuff and scuttle around digging all over.
December 16th, 2015

Lovely to see the red squirrel Shirley. I think it was you who told us of the scheme in place to protect these lovely fellows?
December 17th, 2015
@terryliv Indeed there is, throughout the area there are red squirrel wardens who will seek out greys if they are seen in an area and destroy them. They also monitor the health of the reds to see that the pox has not got to them.
