Cuba is a quite a poor country but the people lead a very simple life and seem happy and content. This collage shows a snap shot into their lives. Each small community has a doctors, a school, a pharmacy, a ration store, a military post and a community area. There is also often a 'snack' hut.
Top left :- this is a street shot of a small community. The house is the doctors house usually the only two story house in the community. This is because the surgery is downstairs and the doctor lives upstairs.
Top right:- the school. This class is the little ones who go to school in the morning then the older children are in the school in the afternoon.
Middle left is the pharmacy. All medical treatment in Cuba is free. They also have a selection of natural medicines in the pharmacy alongside the normal medicines.
Middle right:- Is the ration store. All Cubans have a ration book per family and are allowed to buy 1lb rice, 1lb beans, 1 tube of toothpaste, 1 bar of soap etc per family.
Bottom left:- is a Cuban privately run 'small' business. Up until recent years they have not been allowed to have business of their own. Everything had to be sold to the government, and bought from the government. Now these small business are starting up.
Bottom right:- another small business, this time a snack bar. The metal drum has hot coals in the bottom with a shelf running through the middle where the dishes in the foreground are placed and cooked. They call this the Cuban Microwave!!
Thank you all for commenting on my collage. I really enjoyed my stay in Cuba and the people are so friendly.
