British Blue cattle sale and show by shirleybankfarm

British Blue cattle sale and show

We have spent the day at Carlisle auction today. It was the pre-sale show for British Blue cattle. Before the show all cattle have to go through a rigorous inspection. We have one of our bulls up there which I am happy to say passed the test with flying colours.
This collage shows what the animals are inspected for. The first five pictures are not of our animal.
1. shows the vet measuring a bulls scrotum which has to be a certain size for it's age.
2. inspecting the teeth
3. watching them walk to see there is no mobility problems.
4. measuring their height
5. On the weigh bridge to be weighed.
6 & 7. Passed the inspection to get into the show. These two pictures are of our bull Jasper getting judged in the show.
8 & 9. Judging over and our bull is in third place (3rd from the left). We were over the moon with this placing.
Tomorrow we are back at the auction where all the animals will be sold - hopefully if they make the reserve price.

Fine looking beasties... poor boys have to go through some rigorous testing.. I have only heard of Belgium Blue over here.. but they have similar rear ends..

@gijsje @julzmaioro @julienne1 @anazad511 @milaniet @deborah63 @bkbinthecity @beachdog @tonydebont @hermann @snowy Thank you all for your lovely comments. Barb some of them object quite a bit, others just let the inspectors do what they have to. @julzmaioro They are really the same breed, but the British don't like the extremen muscle that the Belgium Blues tend towards so for that reason they now have the British Blues.

Jasper looks a very good bull Shirley, you must have all been incredibly proud! A Fave from me for all rpthese photos taken at Carlilse, I can almost smell the sawdust! Being dairy farmers we never showed our cattle only on the last day did they go in the ring at Beeston on the very sad day we sold up.

@happypat @pyrrhula @onewing @cmp @flowerfairyann @stiggle @harbie Thank you all for your great comments. Pat, I am always sad to sell our cattle after we have spent so much time washing them, learning them to walk on halter etc. Babs, I love your painted cow, and think it would be funny to have it stood in a field. Catherine thank you for the follow, we actually live approx. 35 miles from Carlisle. Ann watching the inspections then the show made the long day pass quite quickly.
