quarter past two

Awarded to Major John Hession (master marksman) for finishing an amateur bike race... in the year 1900.
This sits on my parents mantel, handed down to my Dad from my Nana, from her Mum, (my Granny Griffin who died at the ripe old age of 106). I had to call my Aunt for more info, who had to make a few other calls. Nana couldn't remember, and who could blame her. At almost 100 she has a lot of stuff that she has to remember!

Apparently my Granny ran into a burning house to save this clock!

I love the face and the squiggly numbers

This is an old clock !!!!!! Rather impressive too , I bet the cyclist was proud to win that !!! you don't say if he was a relation but I imagine so !!! Long living family you came from Jenn !!!!

What a nice award. Who would have thought, at the time, it would be so treasured by others throught the years. Great lighting on this shot - you captured the detail nicely.

There is so much more to the story but I don't know the facts for sure. My Aunt told me, but I'm so easily distracted and I forgot! My Granny Griffen was married and her husband had died. She moved to Canada from the States and had to find homes for her 3 kids. (there was no pension and she didn't have a job, which not many women had in those days) My Nana went with a wealthy doctor in Toronto, her sister ended up in BC somehow and their brother lived on a farm, which apparently wasn't very nice. I had every intent on writing the full story here, but I got googling and forgot the details. I'll have to write it down with names and dates because, in another 20 years, there's a good chance this history will be lost. @happypat @egad
