New Wilmington held it's annual pre-fourth of July fireworks display on the campus of Westminster College. It was shot off a little earlier then planned due to severe thunderstorms moving into the area. Fortunately the storm didn't move in until the large portion of the crowd made it safely to their cars!
@marlboromaam - Thank you Maggie! They (pyrotechnicians) shot it, not only early, but fast too since the storms were moving in. So the whole show was almost like a continuous finale. I had my camera on a tripod, but took it off and handheld which you're not supposed to do.
@agavegirl13 - Thank you Karuna! I hope you and you family have a wonderful and safe 4th!!
@jgilker - Thank you Jessika!! Happy 4th of July to you too!! Even though I know the country you are residing in right now won't be celebrating the 4th today.
Wow! This is incredible Skip! Fav! I'm so sad b/c we won't have any fireworks this year b/c of the dry weather and fires.....I was looking forward to getting some practice with night shooting! Maybe next year!
Happy 4th to you!
@kdei - Happy 4th of July Kim to you and your family!! Thank you so much for the very kind comments!! I am sorry you won't get to see any fireworks this year! We were pretty dry around here until July 2nd we got some rain that evening. It put down a lot of rain last night with the storms. Our church has been praying for rain in Colorado. A lady visited our church two Sundays ago who was affected by the fires and she shared with the congregation, briefly, what was going on and that they aren't predicting any rain until September.
@meisen325 - Thank you very much Monica for the very kind comments and for the Fav!! I greatly appreciate both!! I hope you 4th was a safe and pleasant one!!
@groovygirlrn - Thank you so much Sheri for your encouraging compliments!!
@archaeofrog - Why thank you very much Katie for stopping and commenting!!
@michaelelliott - Thank you very much Michael!! My wife and I use to shoot fireworks professionally and the Grand Finale was my favorite part even though I didn't get to watch them. I had to keep my eye on the tubes as the shells were firing in case there was a break so I could re-light. I'd always have 30-50 salutes (whites flash with loud booms-no color) at the end of the finale and I'd signal my wife who would light 4 four inch color shells and 1 six inch color shell to break above the salutes. Then we'd listen for the roar of the crowd. What a rush!
@skipt07 - wow pyro-technicians - cool! When I was a kid a firecracker that I thought was a dud went off in my hand! I was ok but ringing in my ear for a day. I love watching fireworks though.
