M is for Mansion

This is the former home of Frank and Julia Buhl. It was built in 1891. According to their brochure, it is now one of the top 10 most romantic inns in America.
How lovely1 Nice capture of it. Where is it located?

Wow thats a VERY VERY cool mansion!! Love the great processing!

@catwhiskers - In Sharon, PA

If you had gotten the camera a little lower, but still had the bottom of the frame along the same line, would you have gotten too much of the tree? I feel that top of the turret is a little cropped, but that is me.

Quite beautiful. Almost looks a little haunted?
January 14th, 2013
I like this. I have yet to take a picture that would be appropriate for this type of processing. This one works very well.
January 14th, 2013
I bet the Buhl Mansion would love to get their hands on this photo for their marketing! Great shot!
January 14th, 2013
Holy moly! This is great HDR here! I am not sure "romantic" is what came to mind when I saw it. But I believe you! This is so amazing. What processing did you do? fav
January 14th, 2013
This is just gorgeous Skip! Love the HDR!

@danette - There are stories of supposed sightings in the mansion.

@espyetta - That is what their brochures claims MaryBeth. I used PS CS5 and the Nik Color Efex Pro filter to bring out the details in the stone and clouds.

January 15th, 2013
Wonderful composition and fantastic capture.
January 15th, 2013
How did you process this to look like an oil painting?
January 15th, 2013
@shaedreams - First of all, with my camera on a tripod, I took three photos. 1 at normal setting, 1 at 2 stops overexposed and 1 at 2 stops underexposed. I then used Photomatix to create an HDR by combining the three photos. I then opened the HDR in Photoshop and applied a filter to bring out the detail in the clouds and the stonework.
January 15th, 2013
I can see why. Lovely.
January 15th, 2013
AWESOME!!!!FAV!!
January 15th, 2013
Skip, I love your processing! What program and setting did you use?
January 15th, 2013
@shirljess - Thank you very much Shirley! I used Photomatix Pro 4 to combine the three images into an HDR and used a paintery 5 filter to bring out the detail. I then opened that in PhotoShop CS5 and used Nik Color Efex Pro and used its contrast filters to tweak it a bit more.
January 15th, 2013

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments, Favs and follows! I great appreciate you taking the time to do so. I am overwhelmed by your responses!
@byrdlip - Thank you for your suggestion. It is one I had considered. But had I lowered and tilted my camera up to catch more of the turret I would have had to deal with telephone and power lines. I considered removing them in PhotoShop, but would have required a lot of time to do a good job.
January 16th, 2013
@skipt07 thank you for the explanation. I'm such an amateur :)

Imagine! "They" just don't do it like that anymore! Wow!
April 11th, 2015
No they don't. My wife and I visited Stan Hywet last year. The home of Frank Seiberling the former president and co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. They too left their home to a non-profit organization to care for and allow the public to visit their home and grounds. You don't see that happening today. A completely different generation.
