This is a farm owned by a neighbor and acquaintance of the family. At one time he worked as an engineer for a local business and he started farming as a "hobby" to give him something physical to do other than sitting at a desk all day. A time came when the business he worked for closed and he found himself becoming a full time farmer. Recently I saw that his whole farm had been surrounded by new electric fence. I inquired to see why he put all the fence up and learned that he sold the farm to an Angus farmer and that Dave was suffering from dementia or Alzheimers. Looks better framed in black.
That's a cruel thing your friend is suffering from - or, more precisely, that the family is suffering from, because it's the family who bear the brunt of these illnesses. Nice though that his work will be continued by someone else.
Wow, having dealt with dementia I know how horrible it is. Lovely fram and angus cattle to photograph could be nice but wish it could be under happier circumstances.
@catwhiskers@vignouse@beryl@joansmor - Thank you for your very kind sentiments about Dave! We just lost another friend in February from Alzheimers. Fortunately he didn't suffer a long time. I know it was very hard on the family. I wish it could have a happier ending especially now that he is at the age for retiring!
@catwhiskers - I am so sorry to hear that Nan! Some years ago I bought my wife Nicholas Sparks', "The Notebook". She loved it even as sad as it was. I never read it, but we watched the movie together. It made me cry. I was heartbreaking to see how much it affected the lives of the family of the friend who recently died. Such a cruel disease!
Love the light and tones... Alzheimer's is devastating and it seems that so many, many people are being diagnosed with it... wish we could pinpoint the root of the disease and prevent it rather than trying to find drugs to deal with horrible effects of the disease.
Your shot is wonderful against the black framing. But the change is certainly such a sad happening for Dave and his family. We can only pray for a breakthrough soon in this cruel disease.
@tabarlett - That is something new to our parts. I know they have metal roof in the south, but we are seeing more and more of them being put on homes and other buildings. The farmhouse, which is to the left just out of the picture had a slate roof. They are in the process of putting a metal roof on it too.
This is a gorgeous capture and a fav. I love farms and barns and the blue roof, the golden tones and the lovely sky make this image very special. I am very sorry to hear about your friend and neighbor.
@kareenking@anazad511@maggiemae@fntngrma@soboy5@bill_fe@kimdavis@tonygig - Thank you all for you very kind comments! I was on my way to a meeting as the sun was getting close to setting and that is what drew my attention. I thought, should I take the time to stop for a couple shots and risk being late? I decided to stop and still made it on time. I am glad I did.
fav
So sad to hear about your friend...such a difficult disease.
