My first ever proper long exposure!
Went out this afternoon in the car to another local village to take some shots - found a nice spot, pressed the shutter release, only to get a message on the screen "no card". What a dumpkopf!
So thought I'd go out and try a long exposure of our village church at night instead. Virtually no light, manual focus, 30 secs exposure.
@dave_rv Thanks Dave - couldn't work out how to focus the camera easily though, autofocus wasn't working and it was really hard to use Manual through the viewfinder it was so dark. Any tips?
@snaggy Bang the ISO upto 6400. compose the shot on screen. Switch to viewfinder to get it to focus if need be (seems better in viewfinder mode). Zoom in and check the focus is sharp. Turn off AF. Bump ISO back down to 100 and shoot. Not all steps are necessary. But will help if you're struggling at first.
@snaggy Interesting question! I have encountered this problem in the past, but it was back in the days of manual lenses with a focus scale marked on the lens! Tom's suggestion sounds a good one.
@dave_rv@tomo87 Thanks boys, I did have the focus scale which helped a bit, and I also used a lampost off to the side which I could see. But it really was dark - the only think I could really see through the viewfinder was a faint clock face and a very faint outline of the tower. Tom's ISO trick sounds like a good one, though!
