Officially known as the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition, this black and gold Firebird is often called a "Bandit" and is iconic due to its starring role in the 1977 box office hit "Smokey and the Bandit". In case you were not around back then, Burt Reynolds drove this car in the movie as he and Sally Fields were being chased from Texas to Georgia by Sheriff Buford T. Justice, played to perfection by Jackie Gleason. Filmed in my home state of Georgia, this movie was very popular in 1977.
Sales of these black and gold Trans Ams went through the roof once the film was released. Although the "SE" package added over $1100 to the price, buyers were lined up for these fast cars and virtually every "Bandit" sold for sticker price. These Trans Ams were dripping in gold pinstripes and gold accents, both inside and outside. Some regard them as garish, but hey, it was the 1970's and disco was king back then!
If you were a red blooded American male living in the U.S. in 1977, you wanted one of these "Bandit" Trans Ams!
Ohhhhh how I love the TA. My late husband's best friend had one just like this one. He was our best man in our wedding he wanted us to use it in our wedding but he wouldn't let any one put taped things on it. So we used his twin brothers Grand PrIx. I just love your car shots. A fav
I saw this on the "your favorite shot" and just wanted to stop by and say that I think this is such a FABULOUS SHOT. They sure don't make cars like this any more, do they ; )
Not sure if this is one or not....
