"Tom, get your plane right on time
I know your part'll go fine
Fly down to Mexico
And here I am,
The only living boy in New York...
Half of the time we're gone but we don't know where
And we don't know where
Tom, get your plane right on time
I know you've been eager to fly now
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine now
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in New York..."
The Only Living Boy in New York was released in 1970 on the album Bridge Over Troubled Water. It is a poignant and beautiful song that Paul Simon wrote as a thinly veiled message to Art Garfunkel, referring to when Garfunkel went to Mexico to act in the film Catch-22, leaving Simon alone in New York, writing songs for Bridge over Troubled Water.
I took this image looking north on Lexington Avenue from the Gramercy neighborhood in Manhattan, then re-edited it yesterday. Best viewed large.
@peterdegraaff@seanoneill@ellimae@ivan@thresheg@x1nij@sparkle@gooner46 Thank you all so much for the great comments and for the favs - this photo was originally rejected by me for my NYC series, then I needed an image to match the song and resurrected it with some new processing techniques. I am so glad you all like this one!
This is a wonderful image. I am glad you posted it on the favorite image of the week link. I like the way you posted but forgot to mention the song it represents, so we have to click on it! Love the image, the song it reflects, and the memories it brings back to me!
