I think I prefer the color version. This is nice in mono and has a timeless feel to it but, for me, it loses the tonal quality which drew me to the other picture in the first place. Actually I'm not sure if that's the right terminology.... But I like the contrast in the other pic.
Thank you,Danny for doing this for me!I can imagine how challenging it might be to handle the mid tones and one specific color in b&w conversion.I still think the composition of this image is great for b&w and would be a good base for practicing your editing skills. If you haven't done the BW book club last month ,check out that book (B&W Photography by Michael Freeman). I really like it,but whenever I try converting my images to b&w I still prefer the color version...,which means I need much more to learn...
I can see the trail of mists better in this one, Danny. The colour one suggests a battle between the green and blues, with the blues winning. For me that is a distraction. The b&w is so much more gentle and subtle I think. I like it.
I prefer the B&W version, but this photo could be better still with some work on contrast and levels (If you are a Photoshop guy). The softness and ridge layers have a beautiful mood in this image.
@rvwalker Thanks, Ross. I have photoshop but never use it as I can't figure it out. I use photoscape instead, which only does about 5% of what photoshop can do, but at least I know how to use that one! I did work on both contrast and levels on this one already and have reached the limits of what photoscape can do with this image.
