Yet another Siskind attempt. This is a mixture of inks and shellac. Quite Jackson Pollockish, and as he was an Abstract Expressionist it fits with Siskind.....I think....
very abstract expressionist, it is interesting isn't it how changing something colourful and busy like this to black and white has a really great effect, I really like this one
This is really cool... I like how it moves through a compacted and full feeling at the top of the sheet to having more space and clear breath at the bottom. Super pleasing composition in B&W good choice!
@kali66 yes it can be quite special when removing colour. I am afraid I am guilty of getting some students involved with 365. Some have not quite grasped siskinds work but they are taking shots and trying to learn and use their cameras. They are a good bunch (but don't let the know that I quite like them).
@pflaume Thank you Lisa. It does not work in colour - The black and white is visually stronger - without this challenge I would not have looked at it in this way. Hurrah for Siskind.
@channelf You open an interesting debate - Where I would NEVER claim to be making art, this particular challenge I believe is to see the abstract and therefore the beauty in everyday life. As the photo was taken deliberately (recognised, composed and processed) as opposed to the ink which was created by accident I would argue the 'art' is the photo. (I still don't see it as Art though) Any thoughts?
Great! Love the composition! it looks like a work of art to me! photographic art - you did have to select a section of the paintwork and make a composition of it didn't you? It's one of those art works that would make a real conversation piece!
@spanner I don't know. I strongly believe that seeing the beauty in everyday's life is one of the most difficult thing (and I'm trying hard !) and did not mean to minimize the 'work' behind your capture. It's just a thought I've had on a number of occasions... Now that you explained a bit more the 'original' I tend to agree with you !
