Take Away Time by spanner

Take Away Time

Today I went into a local shopping area and asked complete strangers if I could take their photos. A huge step up from yesterday's hiding behind cars.
I got a really good response but mostly posed static pictures which are rubbish. This is the best of the lot.
I imagine knowing that your pic is taken makes people pose and that takes away the natural aspect of the street photography. I do admire your courage, I think I´d be hiding behind car and be too shy to ask anybody´s permission to take their pic. The composition and b&w makes this pretty intriguing, now i want to know what´s in the bag....

@susale Thanks Suse - I didn't want to ask but it was really hard to be inconspicuous as it was very quiet. So I thought I would just ask as I stood out. I need to go back when it is busier.

Great idea, love the crop and the statement it makes, I would love to do a 'state of the nation'series, I often see the shape people are in and the $%#t they buy at the supermarket and think 1+1 =2... but seems a bit rude, unless like you have done here you make the people anonymous, well done asking people, the start of something.....

@kali66 Thanks Kali for you comments. I don't know about pursuing this, however I feel really happy that I managed to do it.

Good old Joe public - at least your met with a good response. I know I will never do that in a million years - I get embarrassed taking photos of nature and buildings in public!! Did this chap realise you were only going to post his middle plus take away bag? Very effective composition.

@paulaw No he didn't and to be honest I didn't either. He posed as proud as you like (very handsome chap, great smile) but this crop worked best. Otherwise it was just a shot of a smiling bloke who I don't know.

@spanner Which could be perceived as being a touch odd!!!!
November 13th, 2013
@paulaw Definitely....as opposed to the stomach of a bloke who I don't know which is, when you think about it....rather odd.

Ha ha - brilliant!

it's a big, fat, instafav from me! Love the social commentary, even if it was unintentional. :-)

For some reason this song came to mind upon seeing this (it doesn't start till 1:00 in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WTBkj8gFfI

@quixoticneophyte thanks for the link. I am glad you like the shot. I really appreciate your comments
November 13th, 2013
@fearghal thanks Fearghal. I am aware of the 100 strangers project. Up until yesterday I was really scared of it. Not so much now. I might even do it for a week here...........no, I just scared myself again at the thought.

Great perspective and enjoyed your story of this capture. Looks like a bag with water. Guessing that he might of had a fish for a fish tank.

Fantastic composition and love the B&W. I am really glad that people were nice and let you take their photograph!
November 13th, 2013
I love this. Great composition and the light is good. I too want to know what's in the bag. Congratulations for taking that step.
November 13th, 2013
I love the perspective (I don't love the tummy haha) and crop! Awesome.....fav!

@zenna @zenna I think it was chips and a drink.
November 14th, 2013
@rachelm People were very nice indeed. Thanks for your comments and taking a look.

@channelf Thank you. As ever it is a delight to hear from you .

@allisonraposa Thanks Allison - I am rather chuffed with the fav!

Props to you for trying something new. You are quite brave. I don't know if I would have had the guts to do ask people. The few street shots I've taken have always been on the sly. Great shot, btw. I like the crop and choice of B&W.
November 14th, 2013
@pflaume thanks Lisa. I was so conspicuous I just could not get away without asking. Thanks for your comments.

I still haven't quite mastered the street shot. It's worked best for me when it looks as if I'm taking photos of surrounding buildings and I'm sneaky ;o) I think this crop is fantastic. It says such a lot xx
November 14th, 2013
@psychographer thanks Lisa. I need to practice much more. A busier setting would be better I think for my next effort.
November 14th, 2013
So brave. I get really shy about taking photos of strangers, so well done!! This is a great POV & it really is like take-away, lol. Love all the lines & the fact that it's b&w!!
November 14th, 2013
@bec2702 thanks Bec. I was tying to do a play on words with the title takeaway being the food and take away the effect the food will have (take away time from his life). I don't think it worked.
November 14th, 2013
It worked :)
November 14th, 2013
brilliant shot! well done for the crop! for asking a stranger and for the great B&W. Most people don't seem to mind posing for a shot, though, isn't that funny?
November 15th, 2013
p.s. I just tell them they've got a great photogenic face or some such thing before I ask.
November 15th, 2013
@angelat thanks Angela. I will take your advice and try it out.
November 15th, 2013
i find asking harder than not asking... and i find posed shots impossible... i really like this one... fabulous comp... makes you look and think... nicely done!
November 16th, 2013
@northy Thanks Northy - I am glad you like it.
November 16th, 2013
That takes a lot of courage. A huge first step.
