Second upload - I was out for a walk and saw this chap. I tried some panning for the weekly theme. Once more out of my comfort zone. Nothing special just trying a different technique. Once more lots of practice required.
His legs, shoes, and board look great. If I didn't read your description, I would think this was done on purpose. I think it came out rather good. Panning is something I never quite was able to figure out. That might sound stupid. Its a bit like playing the drums. To many moving parts for my brain. I do enjoy the fact that you are experimenting. Your street shots even inspired me to try some of my own. Of course mine came out like rubbish. ;-)
@stillcrappysailor Thanks for your feedback - The only part of him moving in a constant direction was his board and legs - I am quite pleased for a first time effort. But then others will come along and blow this away with their technical know how and creative eye.......curse them all!
I am pleased that you like some of my shots and are inspired to try new things yourself. Thats a pretty cool thing to have been told. Thank you.
I thought about doing a separate album just for street shots around my city. Good for practice, changes up my otherwise boring project a bit, and I don't have to shoot people I know and post their faces on the web! (Though I love taking their photos, I just hate sharing, weird I know)
@stillcrappysailor I have thought about the extra album issue. Then I decided it would seriously take over my life so one is enough for me. Personally I think your project is excellent, however a change is as good as a rest. In my first year I never posted one portrait for some reason. Now I see them as just part of the learning process. I am trying to find a derelict building to shoot, very little point after seeing your work.
@spanner - Thanks. My old project featured portraits very often, however, I am no longer comfortable with it. I dont' know if its because its too personal, or if it would give any clue as to who I am (weird as well, but I enjoy anonymity). Your best bet, is to do a google search for abandoned locations in your area. Chances are someone has already done quite a bit of research on it. Which is both good and bad, as either vandals destroy everything, or the state catches on and decides security is needed. But give it a go, might be interesting to see what you find.
I had an ace membership some years ago, but I found that once I had multiple albums, it became increasing difficult to keep up my motivation, and my project eventually ground to a halt. Keep up the good work, I really do enjoy seeing your project in my dashboard.
Well done, a solid finish on this bucket list item! You are right, it's not as easy as it looks, but what in photography is if you are not shooting on automatic?
Panning is out of my comfort zone too, which is excatly why it should be practised. Nice sense of movement here, making me a bit dizzy but I can feel the energy.
I tried panning twice, thinking it was going to be easy.....notice the lack of panning shots in my album ;-) Kudos to you for trying new techniques.....I like this a lot!
@channelf Thanks for you comments. The light was fading fast so I had to mess around with ISO and speed etc. I was going for 1/20th originally. I enjoyed trying it out.
Nice one! I have tried this a couple times and it is tricky. I took hundreds just to get a couple in focus. I like the skateboarder as subject. I'd like to give that a try, too.
