This weekend a pontoon bridge was built over the Scheldt in Antwerp to commemorate the bridge that was built here in 1914 to get military supplies into the city, and later to evacuate when the Germans captured Antwerp.

Here we look back at the right bank, with the cathedral dominating the skyline.

Is this going to be a permanent fixture? It looks solid and strong! Nice to see that cathedral!

How beautiful! This is so neat, I hope they decide to offer another commemorative crossing for people to enjoy! The river looks calm on the side by the white flag. If you hadn't shown me the boats on the other side I would have never seen how strong the water was moving.

Cathedral does dominate nice subject

@maggiemae No it was only there for 3 days, and even during that time it was regularly opened to let ships through. Traffic on the Scheldt is much too busy to make this permanent.

@kchuk There are no plans to organise this again, so the ones that didn't get the chance to cross are out of luck I'm afraid.
