Hello! - Day 7 - 30 days wild 2016

Really enjoying this wild project, can't believe I have done a week already! So my plan for today was to observe and try and photograph the bees in my garden, only it didn't happen - they are so quick! I can't even get the camera focused on them and they are off somewhere else....

So I resorted to photographing something much slower... We had a thunderstorm this afternoon - well, we had a lots of thunder and then a few spots of rain, but it was enough to wake the snails up. I have a group of around 20 snails in some foliage in my one part of my garden and since the weekend, they don't seem to have moved much at all. The noise or maybe the spots of rain woke them up.

A few basic facts about snails:

[1] they are hermaphrodites

[2] they lay up to 80 eggs at a time, 6 times a year!

[3] they cannot hear

[4] they mostly come out at night/early morning - ok that explains why I haven't seen them moving around I guess!!!

[5] they hibernate over winter

[6] they can live anywhere from 5-15 years
What a lovely shape you've created there. Love it!

Saw this on the PP, absolutely love it. No snails in our garden, the blue tongue lizards and kookaburras always seem to eat them.
fav.
