30 days wild by stephanies

30 days wild

I took my macro lens out today with the intention of trying to photograph some butterflies... but, when I saw this little scene next to the "no swimming" sign, it made me smile and I had to capture this instead.

For 30days wild - https://365project.org/discuss/general/29873/30-days-wild-2017-begins-tomorrow I thought I research a couple of facts about them:

* There are around 6-7 different species of swans. The ones shown in this picture are mute swans

* They weigh over 15kg and their wing span can be over 10 foot! (3.1m)

* They mate for life and are very protective of each other

* Male swans are called cobs, female are called pens

* The pen will lay around 3-8 eggs, incubation period is 34-35 days. The babies are known as cygnets

* They are herbivores and eat mostly plant life

* Life span is anything from 10-20 years

* All the mute swans in England belong to the Queen, no one is allowed to harm them or steal them

Ha ha, well spotted. They obviously can't read or maybe they are just being rebels,

The swans in Australia are black.

Thanks for the interesting info too. Love that the mule swans are under the protection of the Queen. Probably the swans get more respect that way.

I mean mute swans, not mule! No disrespect intended...😊

Stephanie - just catching up from this weekend but we are paired for get pushed this week (thank you for the challenge). This week, take a shot with a low point of view (down low looking up). Hope that works for you - if not let me know -- and good luck.

Thank you, just luck really. Was abit annoying that I didn't have my telephoto lens with me so I could have got in closer on the babies, but I couldn't be bothered to carry it as well as the camera and macro lens. I am thinking I will need a small suitcase soon to carry the whole lot around in pretty soon, lol. @joysabin
