This is the view from Level 42 of the Shangri-La hotel in Dubai. The large junction seen in the foreground is part of the Sheikh Zayed Road which runs like an artery through the city of Dubai, and can go from relatively quiet to jam packed in not much time at all.
By just emailing the hotel to ask for permission and a time slot you can go up and shoot to heart's content. I went up on the first day I was in Dubai at the start of last week to shoot sunset - images to follow shortly as I write this - and decided while I was there to email my contact and go back for sunrise. This was my last full morning in Dubai before flying home the following day. On each visit I was on the balcony by myself for almost all of my time slots.
It's a classic and slightly over done scene but to finally be able to go shoot it was a great experience.
1 - Getting up very early to shoot the sunrise from Level 42
2 - A very smooth de-rig of the camera gear after the last day's coverage of the Dubai Desert Classic
3 - A fun last evening in the hotel room with colleagues with drinks and nibbles
Super shot. As you have seen from Instagram I was back in Norfolk in January, but it was because my mum lost her long fight against cancer. Plan to be back in Norfolk in the fall, if you are about would love to meet up.
@ukandie1 Hi...!
Yes I saw on another comment but hadn't got round to replying. I am sorry to read about your mum. It must have been difficult to go through all that.
I am planning to move back toward London in April (ish) as I want to be closer to my work place in Bucks, and my daughter who lives on the south coast (this trip home for 2 years has always been a temporary one to save cash) but will make trips back t see my folks and my sisters.
So as and when you come back to the UK do let me know and we could meet at home, or in the capital. It would be great to hang out, drink coffee (or tea) and maybe even go shooting. :)
