Outnumbered

I've been told there are five male mallards to every female on our local lake. The females are given a really hard time this time of year and sometimes it has resulted in them being drowned.
This one did eventually break free from the unwanted attention and escaped to fight another day

This happens on the canal where I live, I have to stop myself shouting from the towpath, it’s nature after all, but difficult to witness.
