I spent three hours this morning taking photos of the hares while this on lay in the grass not ten feet from me. It knew I was there but it guessed if it didn't move, I wouldn't see it. Exactly the same tactic that I use and it works for me usualy
The rabbits who visit my backyard do a similar thing. If I step outside while they are grazing, they will freeze right where they are and not move, even if I am looking straight at them but, as soon as I turn away, they are off like a shot.
