On old but very much alive craft

With a member of my photogroup I visited the little Dutch village of Kockengen where the cane cutters were in full action in the freezing beautiful morning sun. Father and son. Here you see the son. Although he was working hard, he answered all our questions very friendly and even told us were not to walk if we didn't want a spontaneous and very cold mud bath ;-)They are using the cane in there own roof thatching firm.
An exciting experience for me and a bit scary too because the ground was quite wobling and you had to take each step with special care if you didn't want to find yourself in knee deep mud ;-)

A super capture. Thatching is such an old industry, it would be a shame to lose
